Cultivation of microalgae in wastewater could significantly contribute to wastewater treatment, biodiesel production, and thus the transition to renewable energy. However, more information on effects of environmental factors, including light intensity, on their growth and composition (particularly fatty acid contents) is required.
Results. In this work, simultaneous wastewater treatment and lipid production were achieved by a microalgal mutant Scenedesmus sp. Z-4 at the low temperature conditions (4, 10, and 15 掳C). The results showed that algal growth was inhibited at 4, 10, and 15 掳C compared to that at the optimal temperature of 25 掳C.
