Seeking the reuse of effluents and sludge
Five wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) located in the north of Spain were investigated in order to determine the presence of pathogenic intestinal protozoa and nematode eggs. All the plants received municipal wastewater and discharged their effluents directly into the Ebro River Basin. One of them (E) had a bath zone downstream.
Although tertiary treatment is not defined in the Urban Wastewater Treatment Direction (UWWTD), it’s often used for “more stringent treatment than secondary treatment”, according to the report. For the destination of sewage sludge, agriculture remained the highest at 49.2 percent, with incineration coming up second at 24.9 percent.

Wastewater treatment in the fish salting industry with a vacuum evaporator. Vacuum evaporation is the best option for wastewater treatment in the fish salting industry. One of its advantages is that it can handle high volumes of effluent. In addition, the resulting by-products, such as fats and proteins with omega-3, can be sold.
Wastewater treatment progresses towards a circular economy
Wastewater treatment combats this problem by converting wastewater into an effluent that can be reused or discharged back into the environment. According to a pan-European consortium working on the EU-funded INCOVER project, this sanitation technology can progress even further.
The issues of wastewater treatment and the reuse of water are of great importance, especially in areas where the shortage of conventional resources is a structural problem, as it is in the case of Spain. Wastewater reuse is a valid mechanism to avoid problems derived from droughts and water scarcity. It allows access to water resources in areas with water restrictions and to prevent futures
Better effluent quality with the fourth wastewater treatment
The Eifel-Rur Water Association operates the largest sewage treatment plant on the river Wurm, with the Aachen-Soers wastewater treatment plant having a load of 458,000 population equivalents (PE). It has a dry weather flow of 6,480 m3/h (41 millions of gallons per day, MGD) and a peak wet weather flow of 10,757 m3/h (68.2 MGD), which are treated in the plant and discharged into the receiving
Biological wastewater treatment systems can be efficient and economical technologies for breaking down and removing organic contaminants from heavily organic-laden wastes, such as those produced in the food and beverage and municipal industries. Since this type of treatment can be made up of an extremely complex set of technologies that use natural processes to break …

- Is polyacrylamide a carcinogen?
- US Biological Life Sciences. Used as chemical intermediate in production of polyacrylamide s, for use in protein electrophoresis (PAGE), synthesis of dyes and copolymers for contact lenses. It is reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen.
- Why is glycerol used in polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis?
- Glycerol is used both in sample preparation and gel formation for polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Glycerol (5-10%) increases the density of a sample so that the sample will layer at the bottom of a gels sample well. Glycerol is also used to aid in casting gradient gels and as a protein stabilizer and storage buffer component.
