Polyacrylamide degradation and its implications
The mobility of PAM increases as the MW decreases; thus, small chain fragments are likely to be much more mobile than the high MW PAM used in fracking, enhanced oil recovery, and environmental

Effect of Hydrolyzed Polyacrylamide Used in Oil Recovery
The major objectives of this study are to experimentally investigate the influences of hydrolyzed polyacrylamide (HPAM) used in oil recovery on characters of crude oil. The HPAM is SNF 3640D from
During this process, water soluble polymers are added to flooding water and then injected into reservoirs. Polymer flooding increases water viscosity and oil/water mobility ratio, and thereby enhances oil recovery. Polymer flooding has been proven to be an effective means to enhance oil recovery for middle/high water-cut oilfields . In this respect, partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide (HPAM) has become the most widely used polymer for enhanced oil recovery because of its low-price, good
Effect of Polymer Adsorption on Permeability Reduction
Injection of the polymer increases the recovery of oil by improving the mobility ratio, reducing the effective permeability to water and increasing the effective permeability to water. In the present study, two different concentrations of PHPA were used to measure the additional recovery of oil after conventional water flooding.
For oil field applications, partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide (HPAM) is the most widely used polymer. HPAM must maintain high viscosity to achieve good oil recovery. In reality, however, polymers can be severely degraded by shearing and heat in the underground environment. This phenomenon is studied in this paper.
