Highly efficient removal of trace thallium
Convenient and efficient method for the removal of trace Tl from contaminated source water is imperative. Here, the removal of trace Tl by K2 FeO 4 [Fe (VI)] was investigated for the first time, with the exploration of reaction mechanisms. Six different types of water treatment agents (powdered activated carbon, Al2 (SO 4) 3, FeCl 3, δ-MnO 2, MnO 2 nano-particles, and K2 FeO 4) were used for the removal of Tl in spiked river water, and K 2 FeO 4 showed excellent removal performance.

Significantly improving trace thallium removal
Coagulation enhanced by nMnO 2 may offer some useful suggestions to develop the conventional drinking water treatment processes for the removal of trace harmful Tl from contaminated surface source waters.
The use of LEAFS for determination of thallium in water originating from port Hamilton (Ontario, Canada) allowed to achieve a detection limit of 0.1 ng L−1(Cheam et al. 1996), whereas samples of spring water collected by Miyazaki et al. contained approx. 1.3 ng mL−1of thallium, as determined by the use of ICP-AES.
Thallium pollution in China and removal technologies
2. Typical sources of Tl in waters. Sources of Tl in water can be classified into two categories: natural and anthropogenic. Thallium is widely distributed in natural waters at concentrations <0.1 μg/L (Peter and Viraraghavan, 2005). However, Tl concentrations are generally higher in watersheds near Tl-bearing minerals.
Water contamination by trace Tl could threaten the public health and global environment, even with minor amount. The drinking water criteria for thallium established by USEPA and the Chinese Government are 0.2 μg/L and 0.1 μg/L, respectively (Memon et al., 2008).
Everyday Uses of Thallium You Didn’t Know About
Thallium is a bluish-white hued metal found in trace amounts throughout the Earth’s crust. In its purest state thallium is both tasteless and odorless, and was once sourced from smelting other metals. Presently our sources of thallium rely on naturally occurring deposits.
EC with post-treatment filtration appears to effectively remove trace metal contaminants to potable water standards, but both reactor and source water parameters critically impact removal efficiency. Geologic and anthropogenic heavy metals contaminate drinking water for millions of people worldwide 1 , 2 .

Thallium is a highly toxic metal found in trace amounts in copper, lead, zinc and other ores. It's used in specialized electronic equipment, and can end up in drinking water through leeching from ore-processing sites and discharge from factories. Health Effects of Thallium. Thallium is toxic to the nervous, gastrointestinal, and respiratory

- Can nonionic polyacrylamide be used as a gel fracturing fluid?
- Nonionic polyacrylamide (NPAM) with controlled molecular weight was successfully synthesized as a gel fracturing fluid by aqueous solution polymerization.
- What is sinofloc nonionic flocculant?
- SINOFLOC nonionic flocculants are technically pure polyacrylamides. Nonionic polyacrylamide exhibits neutral nonionic properties in the aqueous solution which is hardly influenced by the PH value in the application.
- What is gel fracturing fluid based on synthetic NPAM?
- Gel fracturing fluids based on synthetic NPAMs have high shear resistance, low filtration performance, easy gel breaking performance, good proppant carrying capability and low core damage capability.
- Is polyacrylamide a water soluble polymer?
- Polyacrylamide (PAM) is a linear water-soluble polymer with high molecular weight [ 7 ]. It has been widely used as a flocculant in industrial wastewater to aid solid–liquid separation [ 8, 9 ].
