Polyester Fibre - an overview | ScienceDirect Topics
Polyester fiber, specifically polyethylene terephthalate (PET), is the most important synthetic fiber worldwide in terms of production volume and applications. Polyester technology is responsible for a large number of products that range from cotton-blended staple to high-performance tire cord.
Polyester fibre is a “manufactured fibre in which the fibre forming substance is any long chain synthetic polymer composed at least 85% by weight of an ester of a dihydric alcohol (HOROH) and terephthalic acid (p–HOOC–C 6 H 4 COOH)”. Figure 4.1 shows the chemical structure of polyethylene terephthalate (PET). The most widely used polyester fibre is made from the linear polymer poly
Sustainable green technology for recovery of cotton fibers
In this research, high purity cotton fiber and polyester were recovered from textile waste using integrated sustainable chemical technology. Acid was used to remove the textile dyes from the fabric; the spent acid was treated with activated carbon for regeneration with concentration of the regenerated acid similar to the original (83%).
First, polyester fabrics were treated with EDA (99%) at room temperature at a liquor:fabric ratio of 50:1 for 2 h with agitation, and thoroughly rinsed in water. During this treatment one amine group in these compounds reacted with the polymer in the fibre while other amine group remained free on the fibre surface . Second, the amine-treated
Eco-friendly surface modification on polyester fabrics
The alkali treatment created deeper modification into polyester fiber body, leading to more hydrophilic groups which can form H-bonds with water. The decreased crystallinity with the alkali treatment allowed more water to get inside to the inner part of materials and bind to polyester chains in amorphous region ( Table 1 ).
The idea behind the project is new and innovative and it represents an environmentally friendly alternative to users of composites. In addition, the project adds value to the composites waste problem as it will reduce waste going to landfills as well as reduce carbon foot print.
High-Performance Graphene-Based Natural Fiber Composites
Natural fiber composites are attracting significant interest due to their potential for replacing synthetic composites at lower cost with improved environmental sustainability. However, natural fiber composites suffer from poor mechanical and interfacial properties. Here, we report coating of graphene oxide (GO) and graphene flakes (G) onto natural jute fibers to improve mechanical and
Repreve® Recycled Polyester is a high-quality recycled fiber that is certified and traceable, made from 100% recycled materials including post-consumer PET bottles and post-industrial fiber waste. For the related articles, we use a special yarn structure containing this post-consumer recycled polyester fiber blended with cotton.
High flux water purification using aluminium hydroxide
However, small water-soluble molecules (salts, sugars, proteins) remain in the filtrate. The findings demonstrate the potential for wide applicability of hydrate gels in high-flux and low-cost
We studied on the softness properties of polyester fabric by vapor type ozone processing using ozone's strong oxidation instead of 25% NaOH chemical treatment.
- What are the applications of Pam?
- One of the major applications for PAM is sludge dewatering in municipal waste water treatment plants (MWWTPs). Spreading of the sludge on agricultural land is currently one of the most important recycling routes.
- Are cationic polyacrylamide copolymers bad for the environment?
- Cationic polyacrylamide copolymers (PAMs) are used for sludge dewatering in municipal waste water treatment and might enter the environment by spreading of the sludge on agricultural land. Concern has been expressed since little is known about the degradation of PAMs in soils.
- Are cationic polyacrylamide copolymers used for sludge dewatering?
- Environmental Sciences Europe 30, Article number: 16 (2018) Cite this article Cationic polyacrylamide copolymers (PAMs) are used for sludge dewatering in municipal waste water treatment and might enter the environment by spreading of the sludge on agricultural land.
- What is cationic polyacrylamide (CPAM)?
- Cationic Polyacrylamide (CPAM): CPAM is a linear high-molecular-weight compound known for its affinity and adsorption capabilities due to its active functional groups. It is primarily used for coagulating colloids with negative charges.
