LANXESS has a range of special Lewatit resins that, are able to selectively remove, for example, heavy metal ions and organic pollutants from (waste)water. Other fields of application for ion exchange resins include semi-conductor production, galvanic industry (recovery and treatment of metals such as gold, copper, nickel or cobalt in hydrometallurgy), pharmaceuticals, the food and beverage industry.
Ion exchange resins for water treatment by adsorption
Ion exchange resins are used to remove dissolved particles from liquids. Therefore, functional groups are bonded to the polymer beads. These functionalized polymers adsorb particular anions or cations from the liquid and discharge others. Water treatment is the best-known and biggest field of application for ion exchange resins.
LANXESS, the leading specialty chemicals company participated at the Aquatech India tradeshow from 02nd – 04th March, 2011 to showcase the applications of their premium product, namely Lewatit® ion exchange resins. At this exhibition, LANXESS showcased products for industrial and potable water treatment. The main products for industrial water treatment are Lewatit® MonoPlus S 108 and Lewatit® S 1667. Lewatit® MonoPlus S 108 is a new strongly acidic, gel-type cation exchange resin

Lewatit® ion exchangers: This technology removes undesirable substances – such as toxic heavy metals – from water. Since the ion exchange resins only remove these, while leaving all other ions in the water unchanged, the treatment process is especially efficient.
Ion exchange can be used to avoid scale buildup and corrosion in reverse osmosis membrane systems. Consolidated Water Solutions offers a comprehensive line of ion exchange resins for many applications, including simple industrial softening, production of ultrapure water, sweetener purification, pharmaceutics, and metal recovery (mining).
Ion exchange resins and membranes for the important EMEA
Specialty chemicals company LANXESS is showcasing ion exchange resins from its proven Lewatit line and Lewabrane-brand membranes at the 20th annual ICCI International Energy & Environment Conference and Fair. This foremost energy and environment trade fair in Turkey, with ancillary conference, has been held annually since 1994 and this year

Constantly mounting specifications regarding the quality of the treated water are making ever higher demands on
- What is cationic polyacrylamide (CPAM)?
- Cationic polyacrylamides (CPAMs) are widely utilized due to their excellent performance in flocculation and sludge dewatering [ 2 ]. Numerous studies have been conducted on CPAM synthesis technologies, including grafting, free radical polymerization, and polymer modification [ 3 ].
- What factors affect the flocculation effect of cationic polyacrylamide (CPAM)?
- Cationic polyacrylamide (CPAM) is a commonly used flocculant for water treatment. Factors that affect the flocculation effect and can be controlled manually include the type and dosage of CPAM, wastewater pH, stirring time and settling time, and their reasonable setting is critical to the flocculation effect of CPAM.
- Are CPAM emulsions cationic?
- This approach overcomes the drawbacks of traditional optimization methods. We successfully synthesized three CPAM emulsions with a wide range of cationic degrees: low (21.85%), medium (40.25%), and high (71.17%) levels of cationic degree.
- Is CPAM a cationic microblock?
- It has been shown that the flocculation performance of CPAM is related to the distribution and sequencing of cationic units in the molecular chain (Feng et al. 2018b). The continuous arrangement of cationic units in CPAM can form cationic microblock structure.
