ASSESSMENT OF POLYACRYLAMIDE DEGRADATION USING ADVANCED OXIDATION PROCESSES AND FERRATE(VI) OXIDATION. Chemical Engineering Communications 2013, 200 (2) , 235-252. DOI: 10.1080/00986445.2012.695301. Binqiang Xie, Zhengsong Qiu, Weian Huang, Jie Cao, Hanyi Zhong.
The aim of this work was to investigate the degradation of six polyacrylamide (PAM) polymers when submitted to advanced oxidation processes (AOP) and ferrate(VI) oxidation. PAM is a highly versatile polymer made of acrylamide monomers, and it is widely used for water and wastewater treatment purposes.

The overall kinetic rate constant was split into two components: direct oxidation by UV radiation (photolysis) and oxidation by free radicals (mainly OH·) generated in the system. The importance of these two reaction paths for each specific value of ferrous ion concentration, temperature and initial hydrogen peroxide concentration was evaluated.
METHODS: In the present study, the kinetics of degradation of 1,4-dioxane using advanced oxidation processes viz., H₂O₂ alone, Fe(II) + H₂O₂, UV (15 W) + H₂O₂, UV (15 W) + Fe(II) + H₂O₂, US (130 KHz) + Fe(II) + H₂O₂, and sunlight + Fe(II) + H₂O₂ at pH 3.0 was investigated.
Heterogeneous catalytic degradation of polyacrylamide solution
the degradation ratio of PAM in aqueous solution was slow by using physical and biological methods. Recently, some studies used the successful application of advanced oxidation processes for PAM treatment. Fenton reaction, regarded as a very effective approach, has been used in the degradation of many organic compounds.
the pollutants. Chemical degradation of PAM can be achieved by chemical decomposition with a large number of chemical reagents and PAM. But the chemical reagent cost is high and it has certain toxicity, it is easy to cause secondary pollution. Biological methods use the metabolism of microorganisms in
Study on degradation of polyacrylamide by chlorine dioxide
With the development of EOR technology, the problem of oil congestion is more and more serious.Degradation of polyacrylamide by different concentrations of chlorine dioxide, and the influence of temperature were mainly studied.Degradation mechanism of polyacrylamide by chlorine dioxide was also discussed.Viscosity values of polyacrylamide as the change of time in six hours,in different
Pharmaceuticals are often hardly biodegradable and physicochemical technologies are required for their removal from water. Degradation by advanced oxidation processes is intensively studied in last years. However, analytical methodologies to detect AOP-induced pharmaceutical degradation products and to assess their biological effects have not been reviewed until now.

- How are polyacrylamide gels prepared?
- Polyacrylamide gels are prepared by free radical polymerization of acrylamide and a comonomer crosslinker such as bis-acrylamide. Polymerization is initiated by ammonium persulfate (APS) with tetramethylethylenediamine (TEMED) as the catalyst (see figure below).
