The report From Waste to Resource: Shifting Paradigms for Smarter Wastewater Interventions in Latin America and the Caribbean summarizes the work of the World Bank’s initiative “Wastewater: From Waste to Resource,” launched in 2025 to raise awareness among decision makers regarding the potential of wastewater as a resource.
A $710m (MXN9.3bn) wastewater treatment plant will be built in Atotonilco, Hidalgo, Mexico. The plant was agreed by national water commission of Mexico Conagua on 7 January 2010 with a consortium of companies. It is expected to be the largest wastewater treatment project in the country and one of largest of its kind in the world.
