Overcoming Microalgae Harvesting Barrier by Activated
However, wastewater treatment technology based on activated algae processes faces several drawbacks. Microalgae harvesting is one of the major constraints in microalgae biotechnology development
During the development of the granular entities, termed as activated algae granules, target microalgae cells are efficiently entrapped in the granular structure, thus almost complete microalgae
Granular activated algae for wastewater treatment | Water
The study used activated algae granules for low-strength wastewater treatment in sequential batch mode. Each treatment cycle was conducted within 24 h in a bioreactor exposed to 235 μmol/m 2 /s light intensity. Wastewater treatment was performed mostly in aerobic conditions, oxygen being provided by microalgae.
The granular activated algae system proved to be a promising alternative for wastewater treatment as it also sustains cost-efficient microalgae harvesting, with microalgae recovery efficiency ranging between 99.85 and 99.99% after granules settling with a velocity of 19 ± 3.6 m/h.
Development and performance of halophilic microalgae
1. Introduction. A century old activated sludge process is still widely used in the wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) for biological remediation of municipal and industrial wastewaters (Sheik et al., 2014).Due to the use of considerable amount of fossil fuel derived energy for the aeration, and moving wastewater and biomass between the treatment tanks as well as associated greenhouse gas
A starch-containing textile desizing wastewater (TDW) contains high strength organics that needed to be removed or reused. A novel process combining granular activated carbon (GAC) adsorption, mesophilic anaerobic digestion (AD) and microalgae Scenedesmus sp. cultivation was investigated using lab-scale reactors to treat a TDW for strength removal and producing biogas and algae biomass.
Activated Carbon for Waste Water Treatment
In several large-scale pilot plants at various wastewater treatment plants with more than 100m³ of granulated activated carbon, the excellent performance could be paired with showing a very good efficiency of our products. Pharmaceutical Formulation Facilities as Sources
Facilities involved in the manufacture of pharmaceutical products are an under-investigated source of pharmaceuticals to the environment. Between 2004 and 2009, 35 to 38 effluent samples were collected from each of three wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) in New York and analyzed for seven pharmaceuticals including opioids and muscle relaxants.

- What is Pac based water treatment?
- PAC is the polymer adopted by the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) and the Barekese Water Treatment Plant management in Ghana. However, limited information is available on the optimal dosage and operating conditions for PAC-based water treatment.
- Can PAC be used as coagulant for water treatment?
- The ZPD value of PAC was also revealed that the flocculation tendency of PAC particles was very high in water, and the PAC could be used as coagulant for water treatment. Fig. 5.
- Is polyaluminum chloride a good coagulant for water treatment?
- Polyaluminum chloride (PAC) is highly effective coagulant for water treatment over conventional coagulants because of low dosage requirement, shorter flocculation time, smaller amount of sludge, high efficiency and low aluminum residual in treated water [ 6 ].
- What is the turbidity of a PAC flocculated water?
- The average PAC dose, since its introduction in December 2016, was 33.2 mg/l, with minimum and maximum dosages of 14.1 and 43.8 mg/l. Since PAC's introduction, the turbidity of the flocculated water has remained fairly stable, within the range 3.5 to 6.1 NTU. When alum was in use, the range was 2.0 to 6.4 NTU ( Figure 4 ).
