Methanogenic Anaerobic Digestion of Wastewater - microbewiki
The microorganisms involved in methanogenic digestion work in synergy, where products of one reaction serves as the substrate for another group of microorganisms, thus the four-step process of converting wastewater into methane and carbon dioxide is a chain process, in which many complex biological reactions that run in parallel (Fig. 4). 6 To maintain a balanced digestion process, the various
Among different conversion processes for biomass, biological anaerobic digestion is one of the most economic ways to produce biogas from various biomass substrates. In addition to hydrolysis of polymeric substances, the activity and performance of the methanogenic bacteria is of paramount importance during methanogenesis. The aim of this paper is primarily to review the recent literature about

I really enjoyed this article about methanogens, especially the part about the practical application of using them to treat waste water. I was left wondering whether there may be some way to use microbes that are capable of methanotrophy in conjunction with methanogens, in order to neutralize the amount of harmful greenhouse gas produced.
The role of biotechnology on the treatment of wastes
The role of biotechnology on the treatment of wastes. W hile submerged in the waste water, the . methanogens are sensitive to pH an d methanogenesis .
Sewage treatment is a process in which the pollutants are removed. The ultimate goal of sewage treatment is to produce an effluent that will not impact the environment .In the absence of sewage treatment, the results can be devastating as sewage can disrupt the environment.
Wastewater Treatment Water Use - USGS
Wastewater treatment. The major aim of wastewater treatment is to remove as much of the suspended solids as possible before the remaining water, called effluent, is discharged back to the environment. As solid material decays, it uses up oxygen, which is needed by the plants and animals living in the water.
The predominance of the hydrogenotrophic methanogens strongly suggests that methane is generated mainly by the hydrogenotrophic pathway and aceticlastic methanogenesis plays a secondary role in the anaerobic digestion process (Figures 3 and and4.). 4.).
Biofilm - Definition, Function and Structure | Biology
A biofilm is a thick layer of prokaryotic organisms that have aggregated to form a colony. The colony attaches to a surface with a slime layer which aids in protecting the microorganisms. There are a number of reasons why biofilms are formed, all of which promote growth and survival or the microorganisms.
Anaerobic digestion is a series of processes in which microorganisms break down biodegradable material in the absence of oxygen. [1] It is used for industrial or domestic purposes to manage waste and/or to release energy. The digestion process begins with bacterial hydrolysis of the input materials to break down insoluble organic polymers, such as carbohydrates, and make them available for

- Is polyaluminum chloride a Lewis acid catalyst?
- Polyaluminum chloride (PAC) is an inorganic polymer material that has the advantages of a simple preparation process and special electronic structure. It is considered to be the most efficient and widely used occulation material for water treatment. In this work, PAC has been used as a Lewis acid catalyst
- How is polyaluminium chloride synthesized?
- Synthesis of polyaluminium chloride 2.1.1. Preparation of solutions (min 37%). Granular Al was introduced slowly and in small portions to continuous magnetic stirring. After the introduction of the fi rst heating was not needed. without heating. A portion of NaOH solution (10 –50%) was placed in a 500 mL flask on a magnetic stirrer.
- What is the molecular formula of poly-aluminum chloride?
- One of the major pre-polymerized coagulants, poly-aluminum chloride (PACl) is used broadly for water and wastewater treatment. PACl contains different amounts of hydroxyl, and the molecular formula of PACl is [Al m (OH) n (H 2 O) x]·Cl 3m−n (n ≤ 3 m).
- What is polyaluminum chloride (PAC)?
- Polyaluminum chloride (PAC) is a classic inorganic polymer material, which has the advantages of easy preparation, low cost, and high efficiency in the field of water treatment and other areas of environmental protection [ 1, 2 ].
