The Chevron San Ardo Oil Field case study is a success story for produced water reuse. The case study provides a potential window into the future. As existing oil fields mature, water cut increases, and as world-wide water demand grows, beneficial reuse may present an increasingly attractive option for produced water management.
The treated water is discharged to post-treatment constructed wetlands and aquifer recharge basins. This technology, portions of which were developed jointly and patented separately by Chevron U.S.A., Inc. and Veolia N.A. Water Systems, has proven to be a reliable and robust process for successfully treating produced water for surface discharge.
