In this paper, we have reported the synthesis of polyacrylamide grafted fenugreek gum which is used as a flocculant. The techniques involve microwave irradiated synthesis [] and its comparison with thermal grafting with the application of moderate heat using a free radical initiator (Ceric ammonium nitrate) to get our synthesized graft copolymers.

Many graft copolymers have been synthesized by grafting polyacrylamide chains onto guar gum [1,2], xanthan gum [3,4] carboxy methyl cellulose and starch [5]. Their shear stability and drag reduction efficiency have been extensively studied [3,6]. Most polysaccharides are purified before use [3].

In this research paper an attempt has been made to evaluate the feasibility of synthesized graft copolymer in the formulation of water based mud system for challenging formations. The microwave irradiation technique has been adopted for synthesizing PAA/AMPS-g-Sesbania gum copolymer. Further, it was processed in the formulation of mud system.
Finally, the mixture was subjected to precipitation in acetone as a non-solvent for the graft copolymer and to leech out the oil droplet inside the graft matrix. The highly porous graft product was then dried in an oven under 40 °C until constant weight.
