Whole House Fluoride Reduction Water Filters-10 / 5-10 GPM
Activated Alumina: High-purity activated aluminum oxide effectively adsorbs up to 90% of fluoride from your incoming water source for healthier water throughout your home. Next Generation, Most Effective Design: Engineered with electronic auto wash for maximum media contact time and performance compared to non-backwashing systems. Fully Automated
Hydrosil’s HS-F is designed for fluoride removal for water treatment. This activated alumina is an adsorbent of metals as well as fluoride. Regeneration is typically used when media is spent. HS-F is widely used to remove fluoride in drinking water. There are several programs in the US studying the exposure of fluoride which suggest that high levels of fluoride in water is toxic to human brains.

Drinking Water Treatment – Anion Exchange Units. EFFECTIVE AGAINST: Negatively charge ions, such as nitrates, bicarbonate, sulfate, selenium, and some compounds of arsenic. NOT EFFECTIVE AGAINST: Positively charged ions such as iron, magnesium, calcium or manganese.
Activated alumina media can either be regenerated through a series of washes or replaced when it becomes saturated. Benefits. Activated alumina has been identified by EPA as a Small System Compliance Technology (SSCT) for uranium, and can remove up to 99 percent of the contaminant, depending on pH and concentrations of competing ions.

Activated alumina can be used as a point-of-entry or point-of-use water treatment device. Activated alumina absorbs contaminants instead of filtering them. The effectiveness of activated alumina depends on the contaminant, characteristics of the …
Although activated alumina is considered to be a good adsorbent for the defluoridation of water, but it could remove fluoride from water only up to 70% at pH 7, 4 g/l AA and initial fluoride concentration 13.2 mg/l . The authors experimentally found that at pH 7.5 and 16 g/l AA, 76% of fluoride can be removed by activated alumina at 12 mg/l

Drinking Water Treatment – Filtration. EFFECTIVE AGAINST: Small particles and suspended solids such as ferric iron, clay, silt and sand, and some pathogens such as bacteria and viruses, and colloids (suspended matter).
The US EPA has identified the following treatment processes as Best Available Technologies (BATs) for control of fluoride in drinking water: reverse osmosis and activated alumina [1957]. Because of the high effectiveness of the BATs, treatment would not be a limiting factor if a lower MCL was set [2009].
Global Activated Alumina Market: Industry Trends, Share
Activated alumina is extensively used for the development of reverse osmosis (RO) membrane technology that is utilized in the purification of drinking water. Furthermore, widespread product adoption for purifying lithium, which is used in glass, ceramics, lubricating greases, batteries and air treatment, is providing a boost to the market growth.
Editor's Note: One of the persistent legends that flies around the internet involves the belief that activated alumina, a manufactured water treatment product, gives up aluminum and adds it to the water being treated. We're reprinting the document below in its entirety to address the issue. It reports a study conducted by the prestigious European Food Safety Authority in 2006 to investigate
Activated Alumina Water Treatment - Fluoride Removal
Activated alumina water treatment is widely accepted as the best and most cost effective adsorbent for the removal of arsenic and fluoride from drinking water. Interra Global is pleased to offer BASF DD6 for this purpose.
“Activated alumina is manufactured from aluminium hydroxide by dehydroxylating it in a way that produces a highly porous material; this material can have a surface area significantly over 200 square metres/g. The compound is used as a desiccant (to keep things dry by absorbing water from the air) and as a filter of fluoride, arsenic and selenium in drinking water.
- What flocculants are used in water treatment?
- Aluminium-based Flocculants: Aluminium sulphate (alum) is the most common aluminium-based flocculant used in water treatment. Its effectiveness is attributed to its ability to neutralise the electrical charges on colloidal particles, promoting their aggregation and subsequent sedimentation.
- What are the different types of flocculants?
- Flocculants are available in various types, each with its unique properties and applications. To gain a thorough understanding of these chemical agents, let’s explore the key categories of flocculants commonly employed in water treatment processes. Inorganic flocculants, also known as coagulants, are widely utilised in water treatment applications.
- How do flocculants affect water treatment efficiency?
- As the core of flocculation, flocculants’ characteristics directly determine the efficiency of water treatment (Liao et al. 2014). According to the chemical composition, the flocculant can be divided into inorganic coagulants and organic flocculants.
- Does flocculation strategy work in water treatment?
- As the interest in application of flocculation strategy for water treatment has grown gradually, a number of review articles related to the flocculation process have been published in recent years. Table 2 lists selected review articles with their focus related to the flocculation process in water treatment.
