Coagulant recovery from water treatment plant sludge
Sludge obtained from plants that use polyaluminium chloride (PACl) and alum coagulant was utilised for the study. Effect of three variables, pH, solid content and mixing time was studied using a Box-Behnken statistical experimental design. RSM model was developed based on the experimental aluminium recovery, and the response plots were developed.
Combined with the practical experience of wastewater treatment plant, the chemical coagulants have inhibition effects on microorganism activity, with the influence degree of PAC (polyaluminium chloride) > AlCl3> Fe2(SO4)3. In syn- chronization dephosphorization, the inhibition rates of PAC in 10 ppm and 20 ppm are 11.9% and 33% respectively;
Effect of polyaluminium chloride water treatment sludge
Water resources degeneration is accelerated by the discharge of untreated wastewater and its byproducts, hence, reuse of these wastes is a major contributor to sustaining fresh water for the coming decades. In this study, the reuse of polyaluminium water treatment sludge (PA-WTS) as a flocculant aid to improve the effluent quality of wastewater during primary sedimentation is evaluated and
Sludge handling through spreading by tankers was estimated at 鈧?0.40 m 鈭? for FeCl 3. Thus, the total cost of treatment by FeCl 3 (including sludge disposal) was estimated to be 鈧?1.97 m 鈭?. Supernatant could be recycled to wash the yard as it was free of E. coli, saving 75% of water use, and hence recover 鈧?1.4 m 鈭?.
Avoiding sludge stickiness through addition
The beneficial effect of waste sludge conditioning with PACl is proposed to be the result of the bound water associated with the aluminium polymers in PACl solutions which act as a type of
(ACH) and polyaluminium chloride (PAC) do not have as great an effect as that of alum in respect of water alkalinity and pH. Organic coagulants generally do not effect the raw water alkalinity and pH. All coagulants produce sludge in the form of the metal hydroxide together with coloured and colloidal mater removed
USING POLYALUMINIUM COAGULANTS IN WATER TREATMENT
At one water treatment plant in the Otway region of Victoria, polyaluminium chloride replaced alum and in so doing SO 4 levels in the treated water were reduced from 27 to 4 - 5 mg/L. Previously, alum was dosed at 45 to 55 mg/L at this plant.
