The current paper presents the results of incineration of pyrolytic wastewater (WW) in an oil shale fired 250 MW thermal (MW th) circulating fluidized bed combustion (CFBC) boiler. The measurements in the industrial-scale oil shale fired CFBC unit show that WW incineration did not cause the plant to exceed the gaseous pollutant or particulate matter (PM) emission limits set for large combustion plants.
COMBINED TREATMENT OF PYROGENIC WASTEWATER FROM OIL SHALE
84. The aim of this study was to develop a readily applicable scheme for treatment of pyrogenic wastewater produced from the oil shale retorting process by solid heat carrier technology. Notably, a substantial amount of highly toxic wastewater is produced annually in the pyrolysis step of shale oil production.

CHARACTERIZATION OF THE PYROLYTIC WATER FROM SHALE OIL
Shale oil is produced from oil shale by using thermal treatment--pyrolysis. During the retorting process of oil shale, its organic part is decomposed into four main components: shale oil, retort gas, semi-coke and pyrolytic water [1-4].

Shale oil extraction
Shale oil extraction is an industrial process for unconventional oil production. This process converts kerogen in oil shale into shale oil by pyrolysis, hydrogenation, or thermal dissolution. The resultant shale oil is used as fuel oil or upgraded to meet refinery feedstock specifications by adding hydrogen and removing sulfur and nitrogen impurities.

- What is aqucartm GA 15 water treatment microbiocide?
- AQUCARTM GA 15 Water Treatment Microbiocide is an aqueous solution of glutaraldehyde (CAS Reg. No. 111-30-8) containing varying levels of active ingredient. It is especially effective in controlling slime-forming bacteria, sulfate-reducing bacteria and algae in water cooling towers, air washers, pasteurizers, and other recirculating water systems.
- How effective is aqucar GA 50 water treatment microbiocide?
- As the results show, AQUCAR GA 50 Water Treatment Microbiocide greatly reduced the level of microorganisms in both acidic (pH 5.3) and alkaline (pH 8.1) systems. The American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM) has developed a test method to determine the efficacy of slimicides.

- Can aqucar water treatment microbiocide be used with ammonia?
- At pH 9, 50 ppm AQUCAR Water Treatment Microbiocide could be used in the presence of up to 50 ppm ammonia; while 100 ppm AQUCAR Water Treatment Microbiocide could be used if the concentration of ammonia were between 25 and 50 ppm.
