  • What is dissolved air flotation (DAF) technology?
  • Dissolved air flotation (DAF) technology is one of the efficient techniques for purification of many types of wastewaters which contain pollutants less dense than water. Nowadays, due to high quality standards, wastewaters should be treated with high quality wastewater treatment techniques which meet the appropriate standards.
  • How does a DAF system work?
  • DAF systems are designed to remove total suspended solids (TSS), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), and oils and greases (O&G) from a wastewater stream. Contaminants are removed using a dissolved air-in-water solution produced by injecting air under pressure into a recycle stream of clarified DAF effluent.
  • What is a DAF unit?
  • While DAF units come in many forms, the systems most commonly produced today are rectangular-shaped units using recycle pressurization to provide dissolved air to encourage flotation. As illustrated in Figure 1, a DAF system consists of the following primary components: Figure 1. Typical DAF Unit Contact cell or coagulation chamber.
  • How does a DAF tank work?
  • A portion of the clarified effluent water leaving the DAF tank is pumped into a small pressure vessel (called the air drum) into which compressed air is also introduced. This results in saturating the pressurized effluent water with air.
