Treatment and reuse of textile wastewater by overland flow
The treatment of the wastewater can be divid- ed into three sections-namely a physico-chem- ical section using flocculation and coagulation processes, a biological treatment section using an activated sludge process and a final section using an overland flow method (Fig. 1).
Alum was added at a rate of 416 mg/1 of wastewater as flocculant and lime at 213 mg/1 as precipitant. Settling of floes was assisted by addition of polyelectrolyte at 11 mg/1. An activated sludge process comprising a 30 1 aeration tank and a 20 cm ID conical settling tank was used in the study.
