THE PURON MEMBRANE SYSTEM – NEW CONCEPTS FOR THE MBR
Membrane bioreactor (MBR) technologies are increasingly being used for the municipal wastewater treatment applications and are gradually becoming cost-competitive with conventional treatment systems.
Tam Environmental Services has chosen Koch Membrane Systems to provide PURON ® MBR modules for the wastewater treatment plant at new tourist resorts in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.. The MBR will be used to treat municipal wastewater, which will allow effluent to be reused for irrigation and conserve the region’s scarce water resources.
The MBR Site | Largest membrane bioreactor system
The wastewater treatment system was upgraded to an MBR system with 10 trains of PURON ® membrane modules to process up to 96,700 m 3 (25.5 million gallons) of effluent per day. The PURON ® MBR technology modernises the plant so it will meet future effluent quality and legal requirements of the European Community.
The city of Ávila, Spain, will install GE's ZeeWeed 500D ultrafiltration membrane bioreactor technology to double the amount of water treated at its existing wastewater treatment plant. The city chose to upgrade the facility with MBR technology to increase the capacity and to comply with new regulations for nutrient removal while keeping the
The MBR Site | MBRs − a global picture
Whereas in the past MBRs may have been disregarded in favour of conventional treatment plants, it is now the case that for applications where footprint is limited and a high product water quality is demanded − and for reuse in particular − the MBR is the technology of choice. However, notwithstanding generally the high global growth rates, regional implementation varies significantly.
In Europe by the end of 2008, 37 MBR plants having a capacity higher than 5000 m 3 /d were operating, while more than 800 commercial MBR applications were in use , .It is expected that by 2025 more than 5 million m 3 of wastewater per day will be treated by MBR plants in the world ().The Henriksdal wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) in Stockholm will be upgraded to an MBR that will treat

Concern about the so-called emerging pollutants has increased in the last decade as it is generally known that these compounds may affect negatively aquatic life (Santos et al. 2007) and also human health if these compounds reach the water supply sources at significant levels. One important gateway for these compounds is wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) (Zhang et al. 2008).
Viabilidade do MBR Anaeróbico com Membranas Submersas
Pilot-scale testing has demonstrated that an anaerobic immersed hollow fibre MBR (aniHFMBR) challenged with municipal wastewater can be sustainably operated at a flux of around 15 LMH for an MLTS of 20 g/L when backflushed every 10 filtration-relaxation cycles at a specific gas scour demand (SGDm) of 0.2 Nm3/(m2.h).
----- Future Challenges > While this study has dealt with the impact of on- site domestic wastewater treatment facilities on water pollution, impact of on-site livestock wastewater treatment facilities should also be dealt with by a future study.

- To read the full-text of this research, you can request a copy directly from the authors. Cationic polyacrylamide (CPAM) were used extensively in water treatment, enhanced oil recovery and sludge dewatering. The review summarized the synthesis methods research progress of cationic flocculants.
- Can cationic flocculants be used in sludge dewatering treatment?
- Furthermore, the paper reviewed that the application of cationic flocculants in sludge dewatering treatment. Based on these reviews, the future research perspectives of synthesis and application on cationic flocculants in sludge dewatering treatment were proposed.
- How to improve flocculation efficiency of cationic polyacrylamide (CPAM)?
- Among them, flocculation is an efficient and simple physicochemical method, and to be choose proper flocculant is the key factor to enhance flocculation efficiency (Li et al. 2017; Luo et al. 2013 ). Cationic polyacrylamide (CPAM) is a water-soluble linear polyelectrolyte with high molecular weight and positive charge density.
- Are cationic copolymers used in sludge dewatering?
- Four groups of synthesis technologies of cationic copolymers were reviewed, including aqueous solution polymerization, dispersion polymerization, inverse emulsion polymerization and photo initiated polymerization. Furthermore, the paper reviewed that the application of cationic flocculants in sludge dewatering treatment.
