Synthesis and characterization of partially hydrolyzed
High‐molecular‐weight partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide nanocomposite (HPAMNC) weak gels were synthesized and evaluated for their flooding behaviors in oil‐recovery applications. The structure, morphology, and properties of the obtained HPAMNC samples and their weak gels were characterized by X‐ray diffraction (XRD), transmission

Partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide (PHPA) is a widely used polymer in the oil and gas industry due to its lesser cost and good water solubility. PHPA is used as a functional additive in water-based drilling fluids. The PHPA mud system stabilizes shale formations and influences cuttings and wellbore stability.

Partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide (HPAM) with an average molecular weight of 8 × 10 6 g/mol (hydrolysis degree of 30%) was provided by SNF FLOERGER, with trade name FP3330S. Branched polyethyleneimine (PEI) with an average molecular weight of 25.000 g/mol was purchased from Sigma-Aldrich to work as an organic cross-linker.
Drag reduction behavior of hydrolyzed polyacrylamide
Partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide (HPAM) as the main component of slickwater fracturing fluid is a shear-sensitive polymer, which suffers from mechanical degradation at turbulent flow rates. Five different concentrations of HPAM as well as mixtures of polyacrylamide/xanthan gum were prepared to investigate the possibility of improving shear stability of HPAM.
For EOR, partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide (HPAM) solution with 0.5 wt.% NaOH showed a better sweep efficiency than polymer flood . In wastewater treatment, a low cationic polyacrylamide (4 mg/L PAM) to high rate algal pond (HRAP) treating wastewater in New Zealand achieved at least 50% improvement of total suspended solid (TSS) removal [ 39 ].
Preparation and Performance Evaluation of Alkali-resistant
Currently, most profile control agents would be degraded in strong alkaline condition. They could not be applied in ASP (alkaline, surfactant and partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide) flooding. To solve this problem, a new kind of alkali-resistant gel for deep profile has been studied.

- How does polyacrylamide protect soil?
- Within this perspective, polyacrylamide (PAM) is one of the polymers that used to protect the soil by covering it with a layer of water-soluble polymer. This polymer controls the soil erosion by collecting the soil particles and preventing them from drifting under critical weather conditions such as heavy rain and torrents.
- How dangerous is polyacrylamide (PAM)?
- 4.1.1. Polyacrylamide (PAM) As PAM is extensively used in our daily lives, it is essential to be aware of its potential hazards. Studies have indicated that PAM exhibits low or non-toxicity to humans, primarily due to the large sizes of polymers, which restrict their ability to penetrate the skin.
- What is the global polyacrylamide market size?
- The global polyacrylamide market size was valued at USD 4.5 billion in 2018 and is projected to expand at a CAGR of 6.2% from 2019 to 2025 . In volume, this represents an output of about 2.5 million tons. Polyacrylamide, or PAM, is made from the acrylamide monomer.
- Does polyacrylamide dissolved in water reduce soil erosion?
- We can conclude that the polyacrylamide dissolved in water with 45% concentration leads to highest protection of soil and results in the lowest soil erosion under rain day. Also, the soil loss decreases with the increase of the protection layer through the spray of a growing quantity of polymer solution (from 0.5 to 0.75 L).
