  • Do poly aluminum chloride and poly ferric sulfate affect was digestion?
  • Poly aluminum chloride (PAC) and poly ferric sulfate (PFS) are widely used in wastewater treatment and sludge dewatering, resulting in their amounts being accumulated substantially in waste activated sludge (WAS). Till now, however, little information about their influence on WAS digestion is available.
  • Does PAC decrease sludge organic solubilisation rate?
  • For example, at 60 °C, when PAC level increased from 0 to 10 and 30 mg Al/g TSS, the k value of PAC sludge decreased from 0.016 ± 0.003 to 0.011 ± 0.001 and 0.009 ± 0.001 respectively, which suggested that the PAC with ability to decrease sludge organic solubilisation rate.
  • Does inorganic polymer flocculant affect sludge stability?
  • Further investigation found that the apparent activation energy (AAE) of sludge organic solubilisation and the median particle size of sludge particulates increased with the existence of inorganic polymer flocculant, indicating that the stability of the sludge floc was reinforced by the aggregates of sludge flocs by PAC and PFS.
