Reactive dyes are a class of highly coloured organic substances, primarily used for tinting textiles, that attach themselves to their substrates by a chemical reaction that forms a covalent bond between the molecule of dye and that of the fibre.
Cold pad batch dyeing (CPB) is an alternative method of reactive dyeing that uses fewer resources. With CPB there is no need to apply heat during the process, and no salt or humectants are needed. However, the rate of fixation depends on the ambient temperature, so in countries where there is a big difference between summer/winter temperatures, it is good practice to carry out dye fixation in a heat-regulated room.
