Synthesis of cationic polyacrylamides (CPAMs) by introducing cationic polymer precursors followed by chain extension of acrylamide (AM) homopolymer blocks via RAFT polymerization is a promising approach for engineering high-performance CPAMs. However, the aqueous solution polymerization of AM usually leads to high viscosity, thus limiting the solid content in the polymerization system.

Study on the Dissociation of A New Cationic Polyacrylamide
Abstract: A new kind of cationic polyacrylamide, PAm·MG, has been prepared by the modification of polyacrylamide (—CONH_z) with HCHO and dieyanodiamide. Three PAm·MG species with various degree of substitution (S) have been obtained by varying the ratio HCHO/-CONH_2. They are water-soluble and show effective floccu-lation for the active dyes.
Three cationic polymers with molecular weights and charge densities of 3.0 × 105 g/mol and 10%, 1.1 × 105 g/mol and 40%, and 1.2 × 105 g/mol and 100% were chosen as flocculants to aggregate silica particles (90 nm), under various conditions, including change in polymer dosage, particle concentration, background electrolyte concentration, and shear rate.
Interaction and Adsorption of Hydrophobically Modified
The adsorption of polymers affects the cost and oil recovery in oil reservoir exploitation and the flocculation effect in the treatment of oil sand tailings. The adhesion and adsorption of a hydrophobically modified polyacrylamide (HMPAM), i.e., P(AM-NaAA-C 16 DMAAC), on silica and asphaltene were investigated using surface force measurements, thermodynamic analysis and quartz crystal

- Why is polyacrylamide not a polyamide?
- It can be viewed as polyethylene with amide substituents on alternating carbons. Unlike various nylons, polyacrylamide is not a polyamide because the amide groups are not in the polymer backbone. Owing to the presence of the amide (CONH 2) groups, alternating carbon atoms in the backbone are stereogenic (colloquially: chiral).
- Is polyacrylamide a polyolefin?
- Polyacrylamide is a polyolefin. It can be viewed as polyethylene with amide substituents on alternating carbons. Unlike various nylons, polyacrylamide is not a polyamide because the amide groups are not in the polymer backbone.
- Can polyacrylamide contribute to residual polymer formation?
- Common methods for treating PAM are membrane filtration 25, thermal distillation 24, oxidation treatment 26, and biological treatments 27. However, addressing the challenge posed by PAM remains a pressing issue within the industry. Fig. 1: Polyacrylamide and its fragments may contribute to residual polymer formation.
- Is polyacrylamide contaminated with acrylamide?
- Polyacrylamide is of low toxicity but its precursor acrylamide is a neurotoxin and carcinogen. Thus, concerns naturally center on the possibility that polyacrylamide is contaminated with acrylamide. Considerable effort is made to scavenge traces of acrylamide from the polymer intended for use near food.
